It was a crisp autumn morning when we visited new signatory Southern Lakes Scaffolding to meet their team and introduce them to what being part of the Safety Charter is all about.
Owner and Director Garrit grew up in Christchurch and started Southern Lakes Scaffolding in Cromwell in 2005, returning to Christchurch in 2010 to help with the rebuild. The business now has branches in Cromwell, Christchurch and Kaikoura and from these can service the South Island.
“It’s about culture” Garrit said turning the bacon over, “we made a decision a couple of years ago that we wanted to improve and lift our game in the market. That means having high standards in health and safety. It’s a work in progress shifting people’s thinking and attitudes so that health and safety is at the forefront of what we do and it’s absolutely worth it. We’ve got a really good team on board now and we want to keep lifting our standards and improving.”
Scott Findlay Builders were recommended to us through EQC as a small to medium business and potential signatory who are on their way with health and safety and looking to improve further.
Scott and his team carry out a lot of under floor work, which means they regularly work in confined spaces. Good health and safety practices are simply part of how the business operates.
Welcome on board Southern Lakes Scaffolding and Scott Findlay Builders – we are enjoying working with you already!
