Saving men’s lives by supporting better mental health

Kate Cunningham, who with husband Blair, own and run Blair Cunningham Construction, identified a need for men to talk more openly about mental wellbeing and ways they can support themselves and their workmates to good mental health.

Kate contacted the Canterbury Men’s Centre – a Charter endorsee that works incredibly hard to support men in Canterbury. The Men’s Centre work with men from the construction industry who are looking for a bit of support with issues or concerns they are dealing with.

They also produce a great, free resource called the Blokes Book which provides a listing of Canterbury agencies and services who can help men with their physical and mental health and wellbeing.

Kate has been working with Certified Builders Canterbury branch to get this resource out to more men in the industry and is very happy to confirm that “it’s all go for the Bloke’s Book being sent out with the October copy of Certified Builders bimonthly magazine. Also, an email will be sent out to all NZ Certified Builders Canterbury members explaining what the Blokes Book is about.”

This is great news – thank you Kate for all your work to make this happen! When you receive it, put the book in your smoko room or mention it at your Toolbox Talk.

If you would like more copies, please email blokesbook@canmen.org.nz and order more of this FREE book so that your team, and others you know, could help save a life.
