New focus on safely managing hazardous substances

On 1 December the Hazardous Substances Regulations came into force. The aim is to reduce both the immediate harm to people and longer-term illness caused by hazardous substances in the workplace.

A key new requirement in the regulations is to keep an inventory of the hazardous substances you use, handle, manufacture or store at your workplace. The Hazardous Substances calculator can help you create an inventory and work out the controls you need to put in place to safely manage your hazardous substances.

The Calculator is housed in the Hazardous Substances Toolbox, which is a great source of tools and information, including a practical guide to working with hazardous substances.
