The Canterbury Rebuild Safety Charter leadership has acknowledged the passing of a true health and safety champion.

As many of you will have heard Helen Kelly, the former Council of Trade Unions President has passed away after her battle with cancer.

Helen was part of the Canterbury Rebuild Safety Charter’s Steering Group right up until last year and was a crucial voice on the Group for the workers of the rebuild. She cared passionately about the health and safety of workers, while also developing genuine trust with the business leaders she worked alongside in the rebuild.

Helen was instrumental in the development the Charter’s worker engagement programme and her influence continues on.

There will be rebuild workers and workers throughout the country going home to their families tonight safe and healthy thanks to the tireless work of Helen.

She will be sorely missed.

Graham Darlow
Chair, Canterbury Rebuild Safety Charter
