On Saturday 28 April, we joined many others in commemorating Workers Memorial Day – a time to remember those who have lost their lives at work. We heard from a range of speakers on the theme of ‘Organised Workplaces are Safer Workplaces’ – including the Hon Megan Woods, Minister for the Greater Christchurch Regeneration.
David Bristow, First Union and member of the Charter Working Group, spoke about the good work the Safety Charter has done over the past four years. He focused on the real value that member organisations, both large and small, gain from the Charter onsite visits, toolbox talks and larger member events. He also talked about the strong relationship that the Safety Charter and the unions have which has helped to build an active and resilient group of health and safety representatives throughout the construction industry in Canterbury.
