Celebrating our 10-year members

During the Anniversary Dinner, the Safety Charter acknowledged and recognised the stalwart organisations who had been members for the full ten years.

Accepting their award and certificate from Charter Patron, Graham Darlow and Chairman, Ian Campbell are Ara, AWF, Contract Construction, Enterprise Recruitment, MBIE and Ministry of Justice.

Those unable to attend the evening included Christchurch City Council, EQC, Folwer Homes and Kaianga Ora.

Follow Joseph’s Mental Health Journey

Joseph Zermatten a member of the Safety Charter Health and Safety leaders’ group shares his personal story in a video series produced by the Safety Charter and WorkSafe NZ.

The Safety Charter celebrates its tenth anniversary.

As the Safety Charter celebrates its tenth anniversary, Peter Bateman, Safeguard talks to Paul Duggan, about the Charters success and opportunities, and whether the concept could be replicated elsewhere in the country – without the motivation of a natural disaster and the massive infrastructure rebuild that follows?

Safeguard shares the thoughts and reflections of three member organisations.

• Rob Sloan explains how Enterprise Homes has benefited from the Safety Charter and the collaborative improvements.
• Stephanie Cerpa Health & Safety Manager at Contract Construction, and co-chair of the Health & Safety Leaders Group applauds the Safety Charter and urges a focus on the smaller construction sector players.
• Safety by Design has been a focus for Simon O’Brien, Director Hampton Jones and co-chair of the Professional Services Working Group.

Farewell to Julie

The Safety Charter have sadly farewelled Julie Prutton after the completion of her fixed term contract. Julie has held the role of Business Development Lead, a position which was funded via a Government Grant.  Unfortunately the application for another year of funding was unsuccessful.

Julie has had a very productive year, forging strong relationships with many Safety Charter members in the construction industry and a was a key member of the Mentally Safe Work Conference committee, bringing on board a number of sponsors and exhibitors.

Julie has initiated a of number of Safety Charter events, including tours of Parakiore, and the leadership workshop with Halo Training. Julie will be remembered for her nonstop enthusiasm, positive attitude, and great sense of humour.

The Safety Charter thank Julie for all of her work and wish her all the best for her future endeavors.

Review on Tradie Health Toolbox Event

Inspired by Mens Health Week, Clyne & Bennie recently held the ‘Tradie Health Toolbox’ event which was a tremendous success! Rebecca Moss, Clyne & Bennie notes; “It was a truly emotional and humbling experience that left a lasting impact on all attendees.”

Attendees heard from Chris Jones, Prostate Cancer Foundation; Jordon Rangitoheriri, TAWA Foundation; Paul Duggan – Canterbury Safety Charter and Charlie Munns, Mates in Construction.

Those who attended were also able to speak to registered Nurse Helen Macdonald.

Critical Risk

Half way through the ten Charter commitments, we take a look at Critical Risk and activities which can potentially cause significant harm, including working at heights, working with electricity, working in confined spaces, impairment, hot works, traffic management to name a few.
