In very exciting news, our Chair, Graham Darlow has taken home the Executive of the Year award at the Safeguard awards on Wednesday night.
We’re thrilled Graham has been recognised for his work, not only with the Charter, but also as the Chief Executive of Fletcher Construction and his work in Canterbury.
When handing out the award, sponsored by a Charter endorsee, the Business Leaders’ Health and Safety Forum, the judges noted Graham’s role in leveraging Fletcher Construction’s role in post-quake Christchurch house repair to lift H&S standards among subcontractors.
They also remarked on the opportunity he took from Canterbury to work to raise standards in the residential section nationwide.
Well done Graham!
We’d also like to mention Jules Fulton, from Fulton Hogan, who was also nominated for the same award. Fantastic to see two of our top leaders in the finalists for this category.

We were delighted to see former President of the Council of Trade Unions, and former Steering Group member, Helen Kelly, honoured at the awards – winning the Countdown Lifetime Achievement award.
The Judges noted Helen’s tireless commitment to making sure people are safe at work, using all the tools at her disposal – from the judicial system, to Twitter.
We all know how passionate Helen is on H&S – and she has made a big impact on the Charter during her role as a Steering Group member.

As well as being nominated for the Executive of the Year award, Jules Fulton’s organisation was also nominated for four other awards on the night!
They did take home the Best initiative to address a safety risk award for developing two sophisticated mobile driving simulators to address the vehicle crash rate.
And we cannot forget the significant number of signatories who were nominated for awards. Well done to you all for your efforts in improving H&S in your industry. The following signatories were nominated for awards:
Well done all.
