Calling for Board Members

Calling for Board Members

Board Member nominations for the Canterbury Safety Charter are now open.  The third Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Safety Charter will be held on Tuesday, 30th June 2020.  The Charter Board sets the Canterbury Safety Charters strategy and monitors performance. Being on the Board is a chance to promote and influence positive outcomes in health, safety and wellness in Canterbury.

Nominations close 5pm, Friday, 1st May 2020, and as per the rules of the Society, the appointments panel will select 3 members, with an election to be held at the AGM.

What makes a good board member?

A good board debates issues from a range of perspectives. A board requires a mix of strengths, with each board member contributing something unique and valuable to the culture and vision of the board. Board members also bring their individual experience and networks.

Having a diverse board that reflects the range of our membership means we capture a range of viewpoints to enable the board to make good decisions. This means representing a range of disciplines, ages and career stages – as well as being diverse in terms of gender and ethnicity.

A prerequisite for becoming a Board member is being a financial member of the Safety Charter. Think about what you might add to that mix if you took up this governance role.
