The BIMSafe Project continues to move forward with the naming of the main contractor for the Case Study project, the Otepoti building in Dunedin.
Congratulations to Naylor Love for securing this a contract, and the team look forward to working collaboratively with them to enhance safety on construction sites in New Zealand
The BIMSafe NZ Project welcomes Dr Kathryn Davies to the team as a part time research assistant. Kathryn will conduct international best practice research for the Guidelines, and also contribute as an author.
Kathryn grew up in Taranaki, moved to Wellington to study Building Science at Victoria University of Wellington, then moved to Auckland which has been home ever since, albeit with numerous stints overseas for work and study. Kathryn is a teacher and researcher with almost 30 years of experience, working in a range of areas related to the built environment and the construction process. After starting her career as a CAD draughtsperson in an architectural firm, she spent 5 years in the UK working for BRE.
On her return to New Zealand, she began as a researcher and later took on a teaching role at Unitec in what is now the School of Building Construction, where she has worked for the past 21 years. In 2018 she completed a PhD in Architecture at the University of Auckland, investigating the impact of Building Information Modelling on professional roles, relationships and skills. Other teaching and research interests focus on implementation of information technology in the construction industry; construction Health and Safety, particularly the areas of safety in design and issues around worker well-being such as fatigue, work-life balance and mental health; and industry-based education and training.
Outside of work, Kathryn is an inveterate reader and spends hours lost in books; she also enjoys travel, photography, and the pursuit of cacti to expand her collection.
